Help! 30 June, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — greenmeru @ 11:06 pm

Hollywood theme party on Saturday night and I need ideas. I’m thinking it’ll be easier to dress as a Hollywood character from a movie, rather than try and look like a Hollywood actor.

But I don’t watch too many movies and certainly don’t read magazines… any suggestions on who/what I can dress up as?

Have you ever had a trick played on you that you were glad about? See what IT boys get up to in their spare (work) time. My Grandmother’s hat was a hit for Melbourne Cup day in 2006!

PS. Yes it’s been a while. The second half of 2008 is going to be less busy than the first half. I’m gonna get me some Mel time.

“There is no substitute for quality” 22 February, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — greenmeru @ 3:05 pm

What does that mean?? If it’s not quality, it’s crap. And I can’t think of another word for quality (in Auslan it’s just “Q”). So yes, the maker of the crackers I’m eating (I’m not going to give them free advertising by naming them) after a beer at lunch time are right, there is no substitute for quality.

Keep off my apples! 3 February, 2008

applead.jpgGrowing up the only fruit I liked was apples, so I’ve dealt with plenty of apples, and plenty of apples with stickers in my time. I’ve peeled them off, hardly giving them a thought.

But this one attracted my attention – it was about 3 times the size of a normal fruit sticker! Then to my surprise I realised it was an advertisement. Shock, horror!! (And as Adrian Mole would say, “Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!”) Advertising generally is pretty disgusting, but putting it on my fresh food is an insult.

I’ll stick to my non-waxed and non-stickered apples from the West End markets.

Washing blues 1 February, 2008

Don’t you hate it when you haven’t done washing for so long that the only underwear you’re left with is g-strings…

Big Woohoo! 26 November, 2007

Recently I entered the Brisbane City Council’s 2007 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards. I received a letter today, advising that my photo will appear in the Museum of Brisbane from 30 November 2007 – 2 March 2008. I’m an excited girl. The photo can be viewed here.

I’d like to thank:

* Ben for recommending which camera to get.

* Mum and Dad for assisting with the purchase of the camera.

* Benjamin for commenting on the photo on Facebook; influencing the choice of which photo to enter the competition. And for his ongoing encouragement.

* Jamie for being a great help at the last minute with the printing and ideas for the photo’s title and description.

In loving memory of my camera!

Word of warning 26 November, 2007

I’ve got one word to say about cameras – don’t drop them! The one time I didn’t put my hand through the wrist strap, I dropped my camera and messed up the optical lens. After doing some reading on simliar complaints on the net, it seems that even dropping a camera a small distance on soft ground can be detrimental.

I”m not embarrassed to say that my camera spent its last moments capturing joy on the dance floor at Friday’s nightclub (I know my big bro will be proud of me!). Christmas is good timing for me this year.

This is f***ing political, everything’s political 26 November, 2007

I was pretty excited to have the new Prime Minister’s name on my House of Representatives voting paper last week. Needless to say though, I put my favourite colour into action. Like me, did anyone else laugh when they saw some of the names of the political parties on the Senate voting paper?!
