I like green

5 bleedingly obvious things about me 17 October, 2007

I’ve been tagged by Loudah, so here goes:

1. I am an extrovert. Reading Stickfly’s post about introverts and extroverts, it confirmed it even more for me. I enjoy meeting new people and am often the last to finish my meal from talking too much. During shared meals with a group, the lovely Benjamin often keeps food aside for me so I don’t miss out when I finally finish going blah blah blah.

A colleague even said to me the other day how I need to get out of my cage (ie. my office) at work for a bit of people contact. Hence why, contrary to most people’s feelings, I actually enjoy meetings! (Wow, I get a change of room, interaction with human beans rather than the introvert computer.)

2. I used to have an obsession with the colour purple; now I like green. I still like purple, but now I love green too. Green fits in well with the whole environment theme as well. Go Green(s)!

3. I love sweet food. That’s why with cooking, I enjoy baking desserts the best.

4. I am my mother’s daughter. I sometimes have a similar laugh to her, the way I stand is the same as her, I say the things she does, we’re both positive people. We smile, we laugh, we cry and sometimes get very sentimental; often about our mothers. (“Women become like their mothers, that is their failing; men do not, and that is theirs.”)

5. I was born in Brisbane. However, out of the last 8 years, this is the first year I have lived in my home town on an ongoing basis. (I’ve been told I’m getting a bit “settled” cause I’ve been here a year now!!)

Getting into the West End Groove 6 October, 2007

I thought I was getting ripped off when I paid $5 to get into the basement of Tongue N Groove for some music – the set finished after only hearing one song! (ok so we were maybe a bit late.)

The singer’s voice and style was a cross between Ani DiFranco and Alanis Morriset (although I really dislike her music, except for her song “Uninvited” from the City of Angels soundtrack). Anyway, I really liked this chic’s passion, message and talent on the keyboard. So even though I only heard one song, it was worth the $5. I should have bought her CD so at least I could tell you her name. She’s from Alice Springs.

Then Kahibaloo started up. I didn’t realise experimental, fusion, electronic, mixing, freestylin’, whatever you want to call it, could be so much fun! Two guys from the Phillipines with funky music and noises with an Asian influence. Cool. But what was even cooler was when their “MC” man got up and did his rapping thing to themes! They offered the small, intimate audience the opportunity to call out anything and this guy, with his fun, fuzzy black hair and arm bopping with his words and the beat, performed impromptu rap/hip-hop words to music that couldn’t be predicted. Backpackers, marbles, the environment.

It gave the room and its people such a fun and funky vibe that people got up and danced and were merry. Fun, wacky, interesting. There are some really talented people right on our doorstep.
